Iceland Car Rental Reviews
Our flight was delayed -
From Google reviews: Our flight was delayed so they didn't have the car we ordered, but upgraded us to brand new car. Quick and easy check out and check in.
We had decided to travel to Iceland for 12 days in August-
From Tripadvisor: We had decided to travel to Iceland for 12 days in August and contacted several rental car companies in early July. With an itinerary that would take us on the entire Ring Road, as well as Landmannalaugar, we wanted a reliable SUV to travel those gravel roads in the highlands. Prices in the summertime in Iceland is quite costly for car rentals ranging from $1800 to $3200 USD but our budget was $1700 to $1800 USD. The rental cars, which received not so good reviews on this forum (no need to disclose), offered the lower prices; however, we wanted to rent from a reputable local company due to our travel plans (on unpaved roads). We didn't want to sacrifice safety, and were hopeful we could find a well regarded car company within our budget. Thus, we contacted several reputable companies in hopes of developing some level of comfort with them and narrowed our search between Reykjavik Cars and Iceland Car Rental. We decided on Iceland Car Rental (www.icelandcarrental.is) for several reasons: 1. We shared to Kristjan (email@example.com), our main correspondent at Iceland Car Rental, our budget and he was able to reduce the car rental price to help us stay within our limit. No other car company offered this. 2. Kristjan offered us several cars for $1800 USD including the Ford Escape, Toyota Rav, and Suzuki Grand Vitara. All were 2007 to 2012 models, which were very competitive with other offers. When we had selected the Ford Escape and Kristjan learned that one of the drivers in our party was 6'3", he suggested the Suzuki Grand Vitara for head room for our 6'3" giant. :) Kristjan also suggested the Grand Vitara for the Landmannalaugar region. 3. Communication with Kristjan via email was extremely consistently and regular, up until our arrival, and he was extremely helpful and patient. (Trust me...and I can ask A LOT of questions.) This provided us comfort because we knew that if anything were to happen to us during our travels in Iceland, he would be available and responsive. This in itself, was a deciding factor that helped us decide on Iceland Car Rental since several car companies never responded to emails or were sporadic with their correspondences. Having recently returned from our 12-day trip, the car was extremely comfortable and reliable. No issues experienced and we were able to cross four fords safely to the Landmannalaugar region. For those traveling from the U.S., we opted for car rental coverage from American Express instead of insurance with the car rental companies. This was much more cost effective way to travel. (Please note that NO car insurance, including American Express, will cover incidents crossing rivers. You cross at your own risk.) We highly recommend Iceland Car Rental and Kristjan Baldvinsson. Great service and car!!! Thank you.
Just wanted to add another positive review for http://icelandcarrental.is-
From Tripadvisor: Just wanted to add another positive review for http://icelandcarrental.is. I visitied Iceland again at the beginning of November after falling in love with it on my April trip (see earlier in this thread). I booked a Hyundai ix35 on their website, and that's exactly the car I received. The vehicle was less than a year old and in excellent condition. Very comfy and the heated seats (front and rear!) were a lovely touch for the cold mornings :) This time I opted to collect the car from the airport. I was met at arrivals by one of Icelandcarrental's employees, who drove us the relatively short distance to the airport rental office. Within 5 minutes we had our car and were driving off to Reykjavik. Return was fuss free as last time. Planning to visit again next year, in Summer this time, so will definitely be renting from Icelandcarrental again
We just returned from 3 weeks in Iceland-
From Tripadvisor: We just returned from 3 weeks in Iceland, mostly driving the ring road with a few side trips. We rented 2 Suzuki Grand Vitaras from Iceland Car rental (http://www.icelandcarrental.is/). I would highly recommend this company for their excellent service, their great vehicles, and a very competitive price. Their vehicles were fairly new and in excellent shape. They ran smoothly, had no problems during our travels, were very clean and one of them even had the full navigation/bluetooth/iphone console system. The service was fantastic. We were greeted at the airport (at a very early hour) and taken to our cars, and with that were off into the amazing landscape. When we ripped two tires on a rock, their service hotline was very helpful and the owner was very fair with assessing the damage. He was a pleasure to deal with. I shudder to think what would have happened at one of the big international companies. Iceland car rental is one of those small companies that everyone should be out there supporting. On my next trip to Iceland (which can't come soon enough!), I will definitely be renting with them again.
I'd just like to add my recommendation for IcelandCarRental -
From Tripadvisor: Hi all, I'd just like to add my recommendation for IcelandCarRental (www.icelandcarrental.is). I was the lead in a group of six, tasked with sorting car rental. After sifting through various web forums for reviews, I settled on IcelandCarRental as they seemed like a good mix of price and positive reviews. They definitely weren't the cheapest, but they weren't as pricey as some of the big name companies. I booked well in advance, which I think gave me a bit of a discount too, perhaps 10% or so. I chose the Ford Explorer, and in the months leading up to the trip, made various changes to the booking (timing, pickup/drop-off location etc) which Hrannar kindly sorted out for me without any problems. The car was dropped off to me at my hotel (free of charge) by the company's owner. A very nice chap, who I can't remember the name of! We went through the paperwork and then he actually sat down and gave me a quick chat about driving in Iceland, especially on the gravel roads. I actually found that really useful and a nice touch...and I suspect helps to persuade the renters who think they're invincible, that they're not. The car was as booked, a 2010 Ford Explorer. At first I was a bit miffed that it wasn't a new one, but when I actually got inside, I could tell that it was well maintained. The car was clean throughout (we returned it a bit muddy sorry!), started first time every time, and was very comfortable to drive. Just about managed to squeeze six people and luggage in there too. Don't ask about fuel consumption...but then who cares when you're looking at that scenery :o) Returned the car to the airport on our way out of the country, and popped the keys into the key return box, easy peasy. So a big thumbs up for IcelandCarRental. I will be returning to Iceland as soon as possible, and will definitely rent a car from them again.
I recently visited Iceland for 2 weeks-
From Tripadvisor: I recently visited Iceland for 2 weeks - travelling from Reykjavik via the Golden Circle to Snæfellsnes and on to the West Fjords. I've hired a lot of cars before through all the major companies but never tried a local firm before and I have to say, it was the best car hire I have ever experienced. Ieland car rental (http://www.icelandcarrental.is/) were cheaper than the International companies, but what really made them great was the personal service and flexibility. I'd booked the smalles car available, but they had none left so they upgraded me to a beautiful Suzuki Grand Vitara 4x4 - perfect for Iceland's rough roads! The owner of the company himself brought the car to where I was staying. The car itself was great - super comfortable, sturdy and reliable. I really enjoyed driving it. When we returned from our road trip we weren't due to stay in Reykjavik again but had assumed we'd have to drop the car off there, but instead, for just £20 the company collected it f
I can recommend you Iceland Car Rental-
From Trip advisor: Hi, I can recommend you Iceland Car Rental (www.icelandcarrental.is). I rented a Suzuki this summer and it worked awesome. Friendly staff and the car was almost brand new. We were able to travel all around with no problems. I just have nice memories from this 2weeks tour. Enjoy your trip in Iceland!
Hi there! We rented from Iceland Car Rental-
From Tripadvisor: Hi there! We rented from Iceland Car Rental - they were very courteous(as everyone we encountered though!), and excellent customer service. Dropped off and picked up the car from the hotel.
We had a very good experience with Iceland Car Rental -
From Tripadvisor: We had a very good experience with Iceland Car Rental (www.icelandcarrental.is). We hired a 4x4 for a week. They were very competitively priced, and allowed extras (delivery of the car to our accommodation, and two drivers instead of one) for very little cost, where most car hire companies charge the earth for anything non-standard. Of course, you only really get the measure of a company when something goes wrong; in this case we got a flat. We changed the wheel no trouble, but were concerned that they might use this as a pretext to charge us the full cost of a new tyre. In fact, they did not charge us. Our concerns that a cheap company might offer a substandard service proved completely unfounded, and I would not hesitate to use them again.
Iceland Car Rental-
From Google reviews: Iceland Car Rental was a great company for my husband and I who spent 2 weeks renting a truck in Iceland. They were very honest when they didn't necessarily have to be. A day after we got the truck we discovered some damage that we hadn't noticed before, and so we thought someone had hit us in the parking lot, which we would have had to pay for if that was the case. However, when we called the company, they verified the damage had already been there and it was not our problem to cover. We really appreciated their integrity, plus our car gave us no problems, even on some rough roads where 4 wheel drive is required!
