Yes. F-roads are mountain tracks that legally require a 4x4. They’re rough, often unbridged, and can close without notice. Always check conditions on the day and drive slowly.

No. Off-road driving is illegal in Iceland and strictly prohibited by the rental agreement. You may only drive on marked roads and tracks.

Depending on where you’re going to be driving in Iceland, a 4x4 may be advisable. Many main roads, like the Ring Road, are well-maintained throughout the year, making them suitable for just about any vehicle.

It varies by model. Compact SUVs fit ~2 suitcases, while larger SUVs are equipped to handle families and outdoor gear more comfortably. Ask us for the exact trunk size if you require it.

• To rent a 4x4 with Iceland Car Rental, drivers must be at least 20 years old and hold a valid license for at least one year. For large SUVs or passenger vans, the minimum age is 23.
• A physical driving license is required at pick-up for verification — digital licenses are not accepted. Licenses must use the Roman alphabet; otherwise, an International Driving Permit (IDP) is required.
• For any special exemption requests, please contact our team via email before your pick-up date.

When it comes to paying for your 4x4 rental, we offer these options:

Credit Cards:

We accept major credit cards: American Express, Diners Club, Mastercard, and Visa. 

Debit Cards:

All debit-, debit/credit- or prepaid cards are accepted if a 15-16-digit number is displayed on the card. 

The lessee is required to provide payment card information at checkout.

The card is used to charge the cost of:

• damages and towing
• missing fuel
• additional days
• unpaid parking, toll and road fees
• administration fees and other miscellaneous charges

No security deposit is charged to the card.

The card must be valid for 90 days after the rental period ends.

Yes, you can modify or cancel your reservation after it is confirmed. You simply need to send us an email to our customer service representative.

For changes to reservations made via a travel agency or third-party broker, please contact the relevant agent.

Our cancellation policy is as follows:

• All cancellations made 24 hours prior to the pickup are 100% refunded.
• No shows are not refunded (0% refund)

If you pick up the car but decide to drop off early, we do not refund the unused or partly used rental day(s) unless amendments to the booking or cancellations have been made prior to the pick-up date.

Yes, you can book additional extras online or at the counter; they involve extra cost and are subject to availability.
