Transmission: Automatic – Seats: 4 – Luggage: 1 medium suitcase – Drive: 2WD (no F-roads)

For those who prefer not to shift gears, the Toyota Aygo Automatic offers the same compact convenience as the manual Aygo with a smooth automatic transmission. It’s perfect for city driving and short trips, providing effortless handling in traffic and on Iceland’s roads. The automatic model is essentially the “twin” of the manual Aygo, delivering identical comfort and efficiency with even easier drivability.

City-Friendly Performance: The automatic gearbox takes the stress out of driving, especially if you’re navigating unfamiliar roads or Reykjavik’s streets. Simply put it in Drive and go – the Aygo Automatic’s peppy engine (approx. 1.0L) and well-tuned transmission handle Iceland’s road conditions with ease. It’s a 2WD vehicle, best suited for paved surfaces, and like its manual counterpart, it’s not built for off-road ventures or F-roads.

Fuel Economy: The Aygo Automatic is extremely fuel-efficient, averaging about 4.2 L/100km. That’s among the top in its class, meaning you’ll save on fuel while exploring. With gas prices in Iceland on the higher side, having a car that sips fuel lightly is a real bonus for budget travelers. The automatic’s gear shifts are optimized for economy, so you’ll get nearly the same mileage as the manual Aygo without the need to change gears yourself.

Interior & Cargo: Inside, the Aygo Automatic features seating for four, with a layout identical to the manual version. Heated front seats, a simple but effective climate control, and Bluetooth audio connectivity come standard. Cargo space remains enough for one medium suitcase (around 165 liters) in the trunk. The rear seats can fold if you’re traveling with just one passenger and need extra luggage capacity. It’s an ideal setup for 2 travelers with moderate luggage, or up to 4 travelers with light bags/backpacks.

Tech and Convenience: Despite its economical nature, the Aygo Automatic packs useful features. The infotainment includes Bluetooth, USB/AUX, and a 12V outlet, so you can stream music, use hands-free calling, and keep devices charged. The automatic model also has power steering and a tight turning radius, which makes U-turns and parking in Iceland’s smaller towns very easy. Plus, heated mirrors (if equipped) help on frosty mornings.

On the Road: This car excels on Iceland’s famous routes like the Golden Circle. Its compact size means you can confidently drive down narrow lanes to guesthouses or slip into prime parking spots at popular waterfalls. Just remember, the Aygo Automatic is not allowed on F-roads (mountainous interior roads). It’s lower clearance and 2WD make rough trails unsafe – stick to tarmac and well-traveled gravel roads. If planning winter travel, note that while the Aygo handles fine on plowed roads, for heavy snow or access to remote areas a 4x4 is recommended.
