Experience the future of sustainable travel with the Kia EV6, a cutting-edge electric crossover designed for comfort, efficiency, and style. This modern EV is perfect for eco-conscious travelers exploring Iceland’s main routes in a high-tech vehicle. With instant torque and whisper-quiet acceleration, the EV6 offers a premium driving experience while reducing your environmental footprint.

Impressive Range & Charging: The EV6 boasts a range up to 450 km per charge, allowing you to tour the Golden Circle, South Coast, or Ring Road with minimal stops. Fast-charging capability means you can top up quickly at Iceland’s numerous charging stations. Your EV6 rental comes with at least 70% battery and must be returned similarly charged (a fee applies if under 70%). This ensures a hassle-free journey, as charging infrastructure is widely available in Iceland.

High-Tech Interior: The spacious cabin seats five and features heated seats and even a heated steering wheel – perfect for cold Icelandic days. A large touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto keeps navigation and entertainment at your fingertips. The EV6’s minimalist design and panoramic sunroof (in some models) create an airy, scenic ride, ideal for admiring Iceland’s views.

Comfort & Safety: Advanced driver aids (lane-keeping assist, collision avoidance) and AWD-like stability (despite being 2WD) give you confidence on paved roads. Studded or studless winter tires are fitted during winter months, and all-season tires in summer for optimal grip. Please note the EV6’s 2WD drivetrain is not permitted on F-roads or rugged highland tracks – stick to paved routes and well-graded gravel roads.

Included Amenities: As with all Iceland Car Rental vehicles, the EV6 rental includes CDW insurance, unlimited mileage, 24/7 roadside assistance, and no security deposit required, so you can drive with peace of mind. With our free KEF Airport shuttle, you’ll quickly reach your EV6 and hit the road.

FAQ

FAQs about car rental insurance in Iceland

+/-

Iceland car rental has put together insurance packages so you can have better coverage for lower rates, please review our Insurance page for more details.

Which plugs do EV chargers use in Iceland?

+/-

Public chargers use Type 2 (AC) and CCS2 (DC fast), which are the European standard. If you’re renting in Iceland, you won’t need to worry about extra adapters.

How do I find and pay for charging stations?

+/-

You can use the ON Power app (which is the largest local network in Iceland) to locate, start, and pay for charging. The Tesla app is best for Superchargers, and PlugShare for a live map across all operators. Please note that most posts don’t take contactless cards, so you’ll need to pay through the apps.

How long does EV charging take?

+/-

For DC (Direct Current) fast chargers, plan around 15–45 minutes for a big top-up charge. The exact time will depend on charger speed, battery size, and temperature. AC (commonly found at hotels, etc) top-ups take longer and are best done overnight.

Are there overstay/idle fees at fast chargers?

+/-

At Superchargers, idle (congestion) fees apply when a site is busy (and double at full capacity). The fee will vary depending on the site, so always double-check.

Can I take an EV on F-Roads in the Highlands?

+/-

Electric cars are not recommended for F-Road driving. Only 4x4s are permitted on F-Roads, and they’re only open during the summer. Many electric rental cars are not approved for these roads, and in addition, there are no charging stations in the Highlands, so the chances of getting stranded can be high.

What’s EV range like in the winter?

+/-

Cold weather reduces the range of any electric car. If you are visiting during the winter, plan shorter legs to your journey and keep to the main routes consistently.

Is parking in Reykjavík free for electric cars?

+/-

No. The free-parking concession for electric cars ended in 2023. You should expect to pay the same for parking an EV as a normal car, and standard Reykjavík zone rules and fees will apply.

Are chargers available around the Ring Road and popular attractions?

+/-

Yes. Fast and AC posts are dotted around the Ring Road, major towns, and popular stops. Always make sure to check coverage and recent user check-ins on PlugShare before you arrive.
